It's never too late to undergo changes. In fact, I feel like this happens to me on a weekly--or maybe even daily basis. My energy is always different, I hate being in a routine for too long, and I have so many interests to flip between and can't choose just one to focus on. There's a lot of change that happens when you're in college, and it never stops. From changing your major, to finding new friends, to adopting new habits, being a college student is 100% all about change--and it should be! We go into it thinking that we're complete adults, and that we're going to be the exact same person from freshman year to senior year.
I was a totally different person at the beginning of my freshman year. I stayed up late, went out a lot, was friends with a totally different group of people, wanted to be an actor, and thought that I had it together when I was honestly the most lost I'd ever been. I tried too hard to be what I considered an "adult" and it didn't go well. However, I learned a lot. Now, I go to the gym regularly, consciously try to eat well, I don't go out as much because I recognize that I recharge best alone, I have a solid group of friends, and I truly don't know what I want to do with the rest of my life. I've learned a lot over the last three years, and the world still has a lot to show me. In the near future, another major change is coming. I'm graduating from college, being launched into whatever's coming next, and I'm trying to move out of the state or even country. It's a major leap and, while I'm definitely ready for it, the unknown is terrifying. Despite being nervous, I honestly believe that if I put a good amount of time and energy into my search for what's next, something really wonderful will come my way. Change is scary, but it's also exciting. From trying out a new hair style, to getting the chance to go somewhere new, we all need to switch it up a little bit. Do something that scares you, makes you the right amount of uncomfortable, and challenges you. Go try that machine in the weight room you've never touched, or try running for an extra 5 minutes. Maybe even attempt to play the ukulele because you like the sound of it, or wear a bright red shade of lipstick just because you feel like it. Doing something out of pure curiosity is what life should be all about. We get so caught up in our little bubbles of comfort that we forget that some change is good. It helps refresh our minds and bodies. If we find we didn't like the new change, we can figure out what about it isn't clicking with us, and we can change that too! However, I do recommend that you stick with it for a little bit--nothing great ever comes that easy. I sincerely hope that you go out this week and try something you've never tried before. Talk to that one person in your class, go explore a different part of campus, buy some colored pencils and draw for the first time since high school art class. Go out and do something to fulfill that little part of you that's screaming at you to break routine. Also, when it comes to the future, don't freak out about the change coming. Put some effort into it, prepare yourself as best you can, and remember that you'll end up exactly where you need to be--even if you don't get there immediately or you can't see it right away. Thank you so much for reading! I hope you have a happy, healthy, and adventurous week! ~E
