I can't believe it but it's been exactly 6 months since Dylan and I moved from Tucson to Chicago. When we first arrived, our apartment was empty, we had no clue what our neighborhood was like, and it was 50 degrees (going on 80). Now, there's snow on the ground, we have all we need in our little studio, and are busy exploring places outside of the neighborhood. Here's our update! The Apartment
When we got to Chicago, we shipped most of our stuff to ourselves and started moving into our studio apartment little by little. Some of the first pictures I took were of the place being completely empty besides the air mattress we were sleeping on! Now, we have a box-spring set up, a TV, couch, book shelf, and our bathroom, closets, and kitchen are fully stocked. The Roommates Living with each other has been really easy. We are both waking up at the same time now and have similar work schedules (to be discussed later), so breakfasts and dinners are eaten together and our gym schedules have lined up. Sharing a living space hasn't been difficult and we both tend to clean it as we see necessary. It's also been great having Dylan around when I've been sick. The Jobs Dylan and I have already transitioned from the first jobs we had when we moved here. I am currently in my 2nd job working at a school and he's working for a Temp agency and is under a 3-6 month contract with a company at the moment. Mental and Physical Health As you can imagine and as I'm sure I've talked about, between the crazy schedules and the move to a new city, our mental and physical health was on the fritz for a few months. Luckily, because our schedules are more concrete, we've been able to go to the gym more often and get to go on more regular adventures. We've also been able to consistently see each other, which is much different than it was at the beginning. The Activities Dylan and I are still going to the gym frequently, and even switched over from using an LA Fitness to a Chicago-based gym. We were both in a production over the summer which began rehearsals in June and had its final performance in September, and Dylan has been in a student film, worked as an extra for professional television and movies, was part of a play festival, and was cast in a documentary. The Adventures We've been on adventures both big and small since we've been here. While our biggest one was moving from south to north, we also went to Six Flags during a rainy Fright Fest, and have regular adventures through the city! The Future We truly don't know what's going to happen tomorrow or next week. Maybe we'll settle into our dream jobs over the next 6 months, maybe we'll be in the same line of work or something completely different, maybe we'll go broke, maybe we'll win the lottery. Regardless, we're still full of drive and ambition, and I'm sure when I write our 1-year update in May, things will be different from where they are now!
