Can you believe that it's already November? We've gone though 11 out of 12 months of 2018. That being said, you don't have to wait until January of a new year to change your life. The start of a new month can also be a time to make a change (or even a random Wednesday). This week was definitely different from the rest. Between Halloween and two football games, I've been a little off my health and fitness game. However, I'm so excited to get back on track. (This just goes to show how much of an ebb and flow process getting fit can be.) This just means it's a perfect opportunity to find something new.
Your fitness journey is 100% all about you. You're the one that started it for a reason, and you're the one that will reap the rewards. If you're not happy with a part of your routine, you don't have to stick with it. For example: running--if you dread getting on the treadmill, then find some other way to get your cardio in. Treating your body right should be fun, and you should look forward to going to the gym or to eating your next meal. It shouldn't be some way to punish yourself. For a long time, I saw fitness as an opportunity to "fix" what was wrong with me--the pudge on my stomach, the cellulite on my legs, or cancelling out that awful binge I had. Let me be clear--there is nothing wrong with you and nothing needs fixing. My goal for myself and my hope for you is that you treat your body the way it deserves to be treated--with love, care, and kindness. There is a difference between treating your body well and punishing yourself. Punishment can look like going on an all-natural diet because you hate how you look, or it's working out for an extra hour because you ate poorly and feel guilty. Self care and self love is eating that all-natural diet because you enjoy it and look forward to eating the food you have in your refrigerator. It's taking an extra hour at the gym because you're stretching or you met a friend there and you're switching off on machines so you can chat during your workout. Eating well and working out is a celebration of what your body can do, not a punishment for who you are or what you eat. You should work out and be healthy (in whatever sense this word means for you) to: -Celebrate your body. -Treat your body better than you have been treating it. -Feel better in your own skin (confidence is key). -Be a more positive and happy person. You shouldn't diet or work out to: -Target parts of you that you don't like. -Punish yourself for what you ate (working out doesn't cancel what you eat anyway.) -Have someone else like you or think you're attractive. I hope that you have a happy, healthy, and fulfilling week!
