In celebration of the start of our Thanksgiving break (and me not being sick and actually getting to take a break), let's talk about it! I'm a big fan of taking breaks. From school, from work, from your hobbies, from yourself--there's a lot of opportunities for one.
I don't know about you, but I tend to hit burn-out if I have the exact same routine for a long period of time. Even with my hobbies, I get tired and run out of steam and don't put 100% of my effort into it anymore. A break could be the 15 or 30-minute breaks you get at work, to not taking part in a hobby for a little bit because it becomes strenuous. Regardless, taking a breather is important and I believe that breaks allow us to return to the activity full-force. I don't know about you, but when I get the chance to relax for a little and to focus on other things in my life, I end up missing what I'm taking a break from. Or, when I can take a break at work, I end up feeling re-charged and ready to go back into the room. When it comes to longer breaks (4-5 days away from something or more), they can often feel too short or too long depending on how active we are. If we find a good balance between activity and pure rest (e.g. laying on the couch and doing nothing for 24 hours), then we're sure to feel like we've had enough time. However, when we have too much or too little activity we might feel that our time off was way too long or way too short. So, how can you enjoy a longer break without going overboard on the rest or events?
This doesn't only apply to breaks from work or school. This can also help us with breaks from certain consistent activities in our life or even people! Who knows, you might learn something about yourself at the end of it. Happy Thanksgiving! ~E
